Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Rocks Spider Brooches at MIND Us Foundation Launch

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands made a bold fashion statement at the launch of the MIND Us Foundation online tool in The Hague, Netherlands. While she looked elegant in a black wool cape and fitted slate-grey suit from Natan Couture, it was her choice of accessories that really turned heads.

Pinned to Queen Maxima’s jacket were two giant and glittering spider brooches from Argentinian jewellers Celedonio. The brooches were studded with all-over crystals and perched on her right shoulder. The striking accessories sparked a major reaction from royal style fans, with some finding them “horrific” while others thought they were “fabulous.”

This is not the first time Queen Maxima has chosen to wear insect-inspired accessories. She has previously showcased a stag beetle brooch and a trio of bejewelled bug brooches, demonstrating her penchant for bold and unconventional fashion choices.

Insect jewelry dates back to the Victorian era when natural motifs were considered genteel and virtuous. In recent years, bees have become a popular fashion trend, symbolizing environmental issues and sustainability. The scarab beetle, a slightly edgier cousin, has also made its way into interior design, adding a touch of whimsy and charm to home decor.

Queen Maxima’s choice to wear spider brooches at a public event showcases her confidence and unique sense of style. While some may find her fashion choices polarizing, it is clear that she wears them with grace and carries them off with aplomb. Fashion is a form of self-expression, and Queen Maxima is unafraid to make a statement with her wardrobe choices.
